Laura Beers was classically trained in Ballet, Pointe, Tap and Jazz for 14 years from age 4 and performed with The East Coast Dance Theatre in Melbourne, FL. (She is proud to have danced the Lead of the Nutcracker in ECDT's first production among many other starring roles! Her first taste of teaching was a ballet class at the age of 12.

At Florida State University (Tallahassee), she joined the Ballroom Dance Club to learn Social Ballroom and became Treasurer and Vice President of the group. In 2002, she was honored to teach West Coast Swing for the 25th Anniversary/Reunion of the Club. Since then, she occasionally teaches for the club as a visiting Instructor.

After college and moving to New York, she joined the Silver Dahler Dancers-Country Western Dance Team and they performed in some of the state fairs and many benefits. Laura was also Master of Ceremonies for the group. In 1995 after winning a 2 Step contest with her Instructor, she began teaching Country Western couples and line dancing. When she met her husband John after having attended many workshops, classes and private lessons (both as a lead and a follow!) with some of the Top Instructors in the Country Western circuit, she decided she was passionate about passing on Dance!

In 1996, she and her husband John moved back to Melbourne, FL and they joined the Diamond Dancers of Brevard-Country Western Dance Team. They performed at The Brevard County Fair, The Strawberry Festival and many benefits. Laura continued to teach and started focusing more on Swing-West Coast in particular.

In 1998, Laura & John started their dance club originally named Swing Out, now known as Melbourne's Floorplay Dance Club. The club hosts it's dance on the LAST Saturday of every month. (Click on Floorplay for more info.)

Determined to dance forever after a few injuries, Laura began an intensive study of the body and movement with help from her Physical Therapists and her own reading up on the subject. She also took voice lessons to learn the proper techniques for singing which has helped her instruction and voice overs. Having this knowledge to share with her students helps them to move their body with the most optimal strength and balance.

Laura has continued to improve her dancing and teaching over the last 11 years by taking many private lessons with the best Swing, Country and Ballroom Instructors in the country (both lead and follow and for teaching advice) and by traveling to various events all over the states to keep her abilities current (especially for her passion: West Coast Swing). She completed a Teacher's series of classes in Reno and continually works on how to teach to all kinds of people at all levels.

In March of 2005, Laura was asked to bring some of her students to Buena Vida Retirement home in Melbourne to do a performance for the residents. The FL Today newspaper featured the performance in a wonderful article. She was offered a job teaching Couples and Line Dancing to the residents once a week. She finds it extremely fulfilling to get the people moving and enjoying the music. The Activities Director at the home has said she is thrilled with how Laura adjusts the level to the dancer's ability-even on the spot!

In September 2006, Laura & John decided they were ready to have their own dance team! Laura's goal for the team is to bring West Coast Swing to the community and promote this awesome dance! Swing-N-Sync was born and is continuously working on it's 2 Swing pieces to be performed at variety shows, the state fair, dances, nursing homes and private parties!

In 2009, Laura decided that West Coast Swing should be be even easier to learn. With much inspiration and advice from some of her friends who are top Swing Instructors and after much studying of what is currently being taught, Laura has adapted her format for WCS and has been extremely successful with passing it along!  Also in 2009, Laura taught at Orlando Floorplay's dance and also participated in the Orlando Floorplay Indepen-Dance event.

Currently you can find Laura teaching (occasionally with John's assistance) Swing-especially West Coast Swing, Country. Latin and some Ballroom in Melbourne, Palm Bay, Merritt Island and Cape Canaveral, FL and at various Florida Swing events. She also travels to Daytona and Orlando to give workshops, private lessons and partcipates in Dance Forums at Florida events. What makes her the proudest is that most of her students are referrals! Laura is known for her emphasis on technique, diagnostics, spontaneity and "social survival skills".
